Junior / Trainee Costs Draftsperson
Job Description
A respected and expanding law firm is looking to recruit a Junior or Trainee Costs Draftsperson to join its busy Costs Department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin or develop their career in legal costs — with full training provided and the chance to work alongside experienced professionals on a broad range of matters.
Key Responsibilities:
— Assisting with the preparation of bills of costs, budgets, and statements of costs for detailed assessment
— Supporting fee earners in preparing costs schedules and costs negotiations
— Reviewing case files and identifying recoverable costs
— Assisting with drafting Points of Reply and Points of Dispute
— Liaising with solicitors, clients, and other parties to obtain or clarify information
— Keeping accurate records and maintaining case management systems
— Developing knowledge of relevant costs rules, CPR, and case law
Candidate Requirements:
— A keen interest in legal costs and a desire to build a career in this field
— Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical ability
— Good written and verbal communication skills
— Organised, reliable, and able to manage workload under supervision
— Familiarity with Microsoft Office — especially Excel and Word
— Previous legal or administrative experience is an advantage — but not essential
— A law degree or CILEX qualification (or working towards one) is desirable but not required
