Probate Lawyer
Job Description
A respected law firm is seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Probate Lawyer to join its Private Client team. This is a key role involving the administration of estates — from straightforward cases to complex, high-value matters — with a focus on delivering clear, supportive guidance to clients at a sensitive time.
Key Responsibilities:
— Managing probate files from initial instruction through to final distribution
— Preparing inheritance tax returns and applying for Grants of Probate or Letters of Administration
— Administering estates in accordance with the will or intestacy rules
— Liaising with executors, beneficiaries, financial institutions, and HMRC
— Handling the sale or transfer of estate assets, including property and investments
— Drafting estate accounts and keeping accurate records throughout
— Ensuring compliance with regulatory, tax, and procedural requirements
Candidate Requirements:
— Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive, or experienced probate fee earner
— Strong experience in estate administration and probate processes
— Knowledge of inheritance tax rules and probate applications
— Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
— Strong communication and client care — especially when handling sensitive matters
— STEP qualification or working towards it is desirable but not essential
